One of the goals that we seek for
our youth in the church is to prepare them to be the next generation of adults
in the church to carry on the work that God has given to us. Ministry projects
are a great way to not only train the youth but to get them involved in the work
of the church! This needs to be something that is constantly before them. We
need to raise a generation that thinks it is normal to be constantly about the
work of the Lord. Why?????? Because that is the way the way God ordained
it to be! Read the book of Acts. You will never find anyone who thought ministry
was a once a year or every now and then event. Here are a few ideas for you to
plug your Sunday School class into:
Homeless Ministry - Collect
toiletry items like tooth paste, tooth brushes, after shave, razors, kleenex,
and other items and take them to a homeless shelter. Depending on the local
needs and location, assisting in providing meals, encouragement, a Bible and
other opportunities may be open to you and your youth.
Toys Ministry - Guide your
class to consider some less fortunate family or families during Christmas time.
This is the easiest one to get a class involved in. This can be done incase of a
house fire, a birthday, or any occasion where a toy to a child would brighten a
day and would give an opportunity for witness.
Food for the Hungry Ministry -
Collecting food for the needy is easy to do. A box in the classroom is all it
takes to get this started. This is one to get going now and keep going. This can
serve as an open door for evangelism.
Senior Citizen Ministry - There
are some great opportunities in getting the youth of the church to get to help
some of the senior members of the congregation. Mowing a lawn, raking some
leaves, cleaning out a garage are just a few things you may consider
offering. This is a way for the youth to get to know some of the Senior's of the
church. I have seen this produce some great friendships between some youth and
seniors. This will do more to validate your youth as "real ministering
members" than nearly anything else.
